Each Saturday morning we paddle around Cape Henlopen (you know, that curvy part on a map of Delaware) in search of the Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphin. We take advantage of the tide, so sometimes we enter through the surf and end in the bay...other times, we begin our tour in the Delaware Bay and surf in on an Atlantic Ocean wave at the end. Regardless of where we start, we have a lot of fun and often encounter dolphins (sometimes close enough to look them in the eye as they surface alongside your kayak). Aside from dolphins, we see a variety of shore birds, a couple of lighthouses, some WWII coastal defense fortifications, and usually lots of sunshine.
Data from our tours is often utilized by M.E.R.R. (Marine Education, Research, and Rehab Institute) in their efforts to gain a deeper knowledge of our dolphin friends and help protect them from harm.
Plan to get wet on this trip. This is one of the more challenging trips depending on winds and surf, so it's not a bad idea to give us a call ahead of time to see if this is the trip for you.
